Help

Short answers to the problems people run into most. Everything still happens in your own browser.

Where is my downloaded file?

On a computer, your browser puts it in your Downloads folder. On an iPhone or iPad, Safari saves it in the Files app, usually in the Downloads folder. On Android, look in Downloads or tap the download notification.

Several files at once come as one .zip file. Most phones and computers open it with a tap or a double-click.

My file is too big, or the page stops

Up to about 50 MB works well on most devices. For larger files, a computer is more reliable than a phone, because a phone has less memory. Closing other tabs helps too.

A huge PDF can often be made smaller first with Compress PDF, or cut into parts with Split PDF.

My PDF asks for a password

Type the password in the box that appears in the tool, then try again. It stays in your browser and is forgotten after the job. To remove the password from the file itself, use Unlock PDF; to add one, use Protect PDF.

The Word, PowerPoint or Excel file looks different

Converting is automatic and has no text recognition (OCR): a scanned page stays a picture. You can first make a scan searchable with OCR PDF. Complex layouts, such as tables or several columns, can come out slightly different from the original. Always check the result before you send it on.

Compressing mainly shrinks images, so a PDF that is mostly text hardly gets smaller.

My file is refused

Each tool says which files it takes. Merge combines files of one type: only PDFs, or only Word (.docx), or only PowerPoint (.pptx) files. Older .doc and .ppt files are not supported: save them as .docx or .pptx first.

A damaged PDF can't be opened. If a photo from an iPhone is refused, it may be in HEIC format: choose it from the photo library in Safari, which usually turns it into a JPG, or set Settings › Camera › Formats to "Most Compatible".

Does it work without internet?

Once a tool page has loaded, most tools keep working offline. Only a watermark with special characters or a non-Latin script, and some PDFs with Asian text, need internet. You can also install the site as an app with the "Install app" button at the top (on an iPhone: Share › Add to Home Screen).

Are my files uploaded?

No. Your browser does all the work on your own device, and your files aren't uploaded. You don't have to take our word for it: check it yourself in three steps.
