Fill in its form fields or add text to a page

Guideline: up to 50 MB works well on most devices; for larger files a computer is more reliable than a phone. Check for yourself that your files aren't uploaded

How to fill in a PDF

    1

    Choose your PDF

Drag it into the tool or click to browse. Your file isn't uploaded: your browser reads it itself.

    2

Fill in or click to add text

Form fields appear as a form, grouped per page. On any page you can also click the preview to place a text box, a ✓ or a ✗, and drag it into place.

    3

    Download the filled-in PDF

Click Save filled PDF. The fields keep working, unless you chose to flatten the form.

Tips for filling in a PDF

    Flatten when you're done

Flattening turns the fields into ordinary page content, so nobody can change the answers by accident. Leave it off if someone else still has to fill in fields.

    Works with the keyboard

Select a text box with Tab, move it with the arrow keys (Shift for bigger steps) and remove it with Delete. “Add text box” places a new one without clicking on the page.

    Any alphabet

Accented letters, Greek and Cyrillic are written with an embedded font, so the text stays real text. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew and Arabic are drawn as letter shapes that look the same in every PDF reader.

    Honest about the limits

This is not a full PDF editor: text that is already in the PDF can't be changed or removed. Dynamic XFA forms, signature fields and buttons can't be filled in here, and a digitally signed PDF loses that signature's validity once it is filled in.

Questions about filling in a PDF

How do I fill in a PDF form?

Drop the PDF into the tool above. Its fields appear as a form: type your answers, tick the boxes and pick from the lists, then click Save filled PDF. The filled-in PDF downloads right away.

Can I type on a PDF that has no form fields?

Yes. Click on the page preview where the text should go, type it and pick a size and a colour. You can also place a check mark or a cross. This works for scanned paper forms too.

Can I edit or delete text that is already in the PDF?

No. This tool fills in fields and adds new text; it does not change or remove what is already on the page.

Can the fields still be changed afterwards?

Yes: by default the fields stay fillable in any PDF reader. Tick “Flatten the form afterwards” to turn them into ordinary page content that can no longer be changed.

Does it work with any alphabet?

Letters with accents, Greek and Cyrillic are written as real text with an embedded font. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew, Arabic and mixed alphabets are drawn as letter shapes, which look the same in every PDF reader. Emoji can't be drawn.

    What about password-protected PDFs?

The preview asks for the password, and the filled-in copy is saved without it. A PDF that only has editing restrictions opens without a password.
