Your signature goes on every file at the same place

Guideline: up to 50 MB works well on most devices; for larger files a computer is more reliable than a phone. Check for yourself that your files aren't uploaded

    How to sign a PDF

    1

    Choose your PDF

Drag one or more PDFs into the tool or click to browse. A preview of the first page appears.

    2

    Create your signature

Draw it in the box, or choose a photo or scan of your signature: a white background becomes transparent by itself.

    3

    Place it and download

Drag the signature to the right spot, set its size and pick the page, or every page. Then download the signed PDF.

    Tips for signing a PDF

    Blue or black ink

Choose black or blue: switching the colour also recolours what you already drew. The drawing is trimmed to the ink automatically, so there's no empty border around it.

Place it precisely with the keyboard

Select the signature and use the arrow keys to move it 1% at a time, or 5% with Shift. Screen readers announce the position.

    Add today's date

Tick the date option and today's date appears under the signature, sized along with it. That saves writing the date by hand on every form.

    Honest about the limits

Your signature isn't saved: close the page and it is gone. And it is a simple electronic signature, a picture of your signature, not a certificate-based digital signature.

    Questions about signing a PDF

How do I sign a PDF for free?

Add the PDF to the tool above, draw your signature or choose a picture of it, drag it to the right place and click Sign PDF. The signed file downloads straight away; with several PDFs you get one zip.

Is this a legally valid signature?

It is a simple electronic signature: a picture of your signature on the document. For many everyday documents, such as a form, an internship agreement or an order, that is enough, but whether it is accepted depends on the document and on who receives it. It is not a qualified or certificate-based digital signature, like one made with an electronic identity card. If such a signature is required, this tool is not the right one.

Is my signature sent anywhere or stored?

No. The signature and the PDF stay in your browser. They are not uploaded, not stored and not remembered for next time: close the page and they are gone.

Can I sign on my phone?

Yes. Draw your signature with your finger in the box and drag it into place on the preview. Turning your phone sideways gives you a wider drawing area.

Can I use a photo of my signature?

Yes. Sign a white sheet of paper, take a photo or scan it, and choose it under Picture. The white paper becomes transparent by itself, so only the ink appears on the document. PNG and JPG work.

Can I put the signature on every page?

Yes. Tick On every page, which is handy for initials on each page of a contract. You can also add today's date under the signature.

Can I sign several PDFs at once?

Yes. Every file you add gets the signature at the same place. A file with fewer pages gets it on its last page.

Does signing change the rest of the document?

Text, pictures and form fields stay as they were; only the signature, and the date if you chose it, is added. Two exceptions: editing restrictions (an owner password) are removed, and the tool tells you so; and if the PDF already carries a certificate-based digital signature, that signature is no longer valid in the signed copy – the tool warns you about that too.

What if the PDF has a password?

Remove it first with Unlock PDF on this site; you need to know the password. A PDF that only has editing restrictions can be signed right away; those restrictions are removed in the result.
