Multiple files at once are supported

Guideline: up to 50 MB works well on most devices; for larger files a computer is more reliable than a phone. Check for yourself that your files aren't uploaded

This document looks like a table or list with columns side by side, but its layout was too irregular to convert into a real table automatically. With "Editable text", the order may get scrambled when a cell wraps across multiple lines. For this type of document, Identical layout is likely to give a more reliable result.

How to turn a PDF into an editable Word document

    1

    Choose your files

Add one or more PDFs and choose Editable text, to type in the result, or Identical layout, when it only has to look the same.

    2

    Text and layout are rebuilt

With Editable text, your browser reads the text, lines and pictures of every page and rebuilds them as Word paragraphs, headings, lists and tables. Identical layout places a picture of each page instead.

    3

    Download instantly

Download the .docx file, one per PDF, and open it in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs. Always check the result before you send it on.

Tips for converting PDF to Word

    Headers, footers and footnotes

Text that repeats at the top or bottom of the pages becomes a real Word header or footer, and footnotes become real Word footnotes. Page numbers are not copied into the text.

    Update the table of contents

A table of contents becomes clickable links with page numbers that update. If Word asks to update fields when you open the file, choose Yes to get the right numbers.

    Fonts and pictures

Common fonts such as Arial or Times New Roman keep their name; other fonts are replaced by a similar standard font. Pictures are placed centred on their own line, not wrapped beside the text.

    Honest about the limits

This tool does no text recognition (OCR): a scanned PDF gives pictures in Word, not editable text. You can first make a scan searchable with OCR PDF. With complex layouts, such as several columns or tables across pages, the order of the text can differ from the original.

Questions about converting PDF to Word

How do I convert a PDF to Word for free?

Drop one or more PDFs into the tool above, choose "Editable text" or "Identical layout", and click Convert. Your .docx file is generated in your browser and downloads immediately.

Will the converted Word document be fully editable?

With "Editable text", yes — the text, tables, and basic formatting (bold, italic, fonts) are reconstructed so you can edit them in Word. With complex layouts, always check the result before relying on it for anything official.

What does "Identical layout" mode do?

It creates a Word document where each page is a picture of the original PDF page, so it looks like the original, but the text itself is not editable — useful when appearance matters more than editability.

Does this work with scanned PDFs?

This tool converts the text and layout already present in a PDF. A scanned PDF (an image with no underlying text) won't have text to extract, so "Identical layout" mode is the better choice for those.

Which programs open the Word file?

You get a .docx file. It opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer and Apple Pages.

    Are tables and formatting kept?

In Editable text mode, tables, bold and italic text and fonts are kept where possible. Check complex layouts afterwards; if the result must look exactly like the PDF, choose Identical layout.

    Important to know

Conversion to Word or PowerPoint happens automatically. With complex layouts (tables, multiple columns), the order of text may differ from the original — always check the result yourself before using it for an exam, official document, or any other purpose where accuracy matters.
