Status
PDFCommunity aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA. The site is partially conformant: most parts meet the guidelines, but not everything has been fully tested or fixed yet (see the known limitations below). We test against WCAG 2.1 AA and are working towards WCAG 2.2.
What we have tested
- Automated tests: the pages are checked with axe (axe-core); the most recent check found 0 errors.
- Keyboard: the tools can be used without a mouse (Tab, Enter, Space), with a visible focus indicator and a link to skip straight to the content.
- Screen reader announcements: progress, results and error messages of the tools are announced through live regions.
Known limitations
- Converted files: Word and PowerPoint files made by the tools are not guaranteed to be accessible. Headings, reading order and alternative text for images are not always carried over, and with "Identical layout" each page is an image without selectable text.
- PDF files the tools create: accessibility information (tags) from the original PDF is not always kept, for example when merging or splitting.
- Assistive technology: we have not tested the site with every combination of screen reader, browser and device.
Feedback
Do you run into a problem, or is something hard to use? Email support@pdfcommunity.org and tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and which tools you use (for example your browser and screen reader). That way we can look into it properly. We aim to reply within 10 working days.
