Add a watermark to a PDF, free and private.

Stamp a text such as CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT or COPY, or your own logo, on every page – diagonally, centered or repeated across the page. It all happens in your own browser, so your document isn't uploaded.

The watermark is added to every page

Guideline: up to 50 MB works well on most devices; for larger files a computer is more reliable than a phone. Check for yourself that your files aren't uploaded

Your browser draws the watermark once and places it over the content of every page, centred and at the right angle, also on rotated pages and pages of different sizes.

    Tips for watermarks

    Keep the text short

A text watermark can be up to 60 characters and adjusts its size to each page. Its grey and its transparency are fixed and light, so the page stays readable.

    Western European letters stay searchable

A watermark that only uses Western European letters (also with accents, such as é or ü) is real text, so it shows up when someone copies or searches the page. If it contains other letters (such as ą, ł or ő) or another script, the whole watermark is drawn as letter shapes.

    Logo watermarks

Use a PNG or JPG of up to 10 MB. Size runs from 5 to 100% of the page width and opacity from 5 to 100%; a phone photo of a logo is turned upright automatically.

    Honest about the limits

A watermark is placed on top of the page. It discourages copying, but someone with a PDF editor can remove it again, so it is no real protection. Text in another script, such as Arabic or Japanese, needs fonts that are downloaded from our site the first time: about 25 MB for all scripts at once, so our server can't tell which one you use.

    Questions about PDF watermarks

How do I add a watermark to a PDF?

Drop your PDF into the tool, type the watermark text (or choose Image and pick your logo), pick a style (diagonal, horizontal or repeated) and click Add watermark. The watermark is placed on every page.

Can I use my logo or an image as a watermark?

Yes. Choose Image and pick a PNG or JPG file of up to 10 MB. A PNG with a transparent background keeps its transparency, so only the logo itself shows. You set the size as a percentage of the page width and the opacity, and choose diagonal, horizontal or repeated. The image is added to the PDF only once and reused on every page, so even a long document hardly grows.

Which characters can I use in the watermark?

Letters of almost any alphabet: Latin with accents (é, ü, ç), Greek, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, plus digits, common punctuation and many symbols. Emoji are not supported. For letters beyond the Western European ones, and for symbols, the tool loads a matching font from this site the first time.

Does the watermark hide the content underneath?

No. It is drawn in light gray and semi-transparent, so the page stays readable. The original text and images are not changed.

Can a watermark be removed afterwards?

It is added on top of each page (as text, or as letter shapes for other scripts), so someone with a PDF editor could remove it. A watermark shows that a document is confidential or a draft; it doesn't lock it.

Can I set the size and transparency?

For an image you set the size, as a percentage of the page width, and the opacity. A text watermark is light grey and see-through; you choose its layout: large and diagonal, large and horizontal, or small and repeated over the page.

Is the watermark added to every page?

Yes, to every page of every PDF you add, so a document of 50 pages gets 50 watermarks in one go.

    Important to know

Conversion to Word or PowerPoint happens automatically. With complex layouts (tables, multiple columns), the order of text may differ from the original — always check the result yourself before using it for an exam, official document, or any other purpose where accuracy matters.
